Higher engagement and achievement is more prevalent when students see their home language, culture and identities authentically appreciated in the classroom and community. Building relationships with students, students one to another, and students with the larger community is imperative to building up the knowledge of students’ individual and collective lived experiences. Through this cooperative learning style workshop, teachers and administrator will learn how to set up a classroom where students are included and the curriculum is enhanced by direct connection to their cultures, languages, and histories.
